The Public Realm Programming initiative connects public spaces such as Pedestrian Plazas and Open Streets with local organizations to offer a wide range of positive, enriching activities. This program brings arts, culture, fitness, and educational experiences to neighborhoods, focusing primarily on historically underserved areas and populations, identified as Priority Investment Areas in the NYC Streets Plan.
All activities are free and inclusive, welcoming New Yorkers of all ages and abilities while fostering the positive use of public space. While programming may also extend to other NYC DOT properties and events, it is not available for non-DOT locations such as parks, schools, or private spaces.
Designed for organizations that can activate DOT-managed public spaces, this initiative strengthens community engagement, enhances neighborhood vitality, and improves overall quality of life.
